Medline Employees Join 1,000 Walkers to Fight for Stronger, Healthier Babies

Medline proudly sponsors March of Dimes Lake County March for Babies walk for second year

Mundelein, Ill., April 28, 2014 – Lake County will once again fight to prevent premature birth, birth defects and infant mortality during the annual March for Babies walk presented by Medline Industries, Inc. on Sunday, May 4.

This year, the Planeta Family of Libertyville will serve as the Lake County March for Babies Ambassador Family in celebration of their son, Colin, born a month and a half too soon. Now a healthy 6-year-old, Colin weighed less than 5 pounds when he was born and spent the first month of his life in intensive care.

“My experience has helped make me a better nurse,” says Windy Planeta, who became a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurse at Advocate Condell Medical Center after her son’s birth. “I took a difficult time in my life and turned it into something very positive.”

Medline, a leading medical supplier, is sponsoring the Lake County walk for the second year. Like the March of Dimes, Medline is committed to health care solutions. As a leading medical supplier, manufacturer and distributor, Medline’s products touch upon the entire continuum of care, serving newborns and infants, to the elderly.

“Medline is committed to making life better for people, whether it’s through our ongoing support of healthy babies and the March of Dimes, or the design, manufacture and distribution of high-quality medical supplies serving hospitals across the country and around the world,” says Kathryn Cummings, vice president, corporate communications, Medline.

Each year, nearly 500,000 babies are born too soon. But far too many die, making premature birth the leading cause of death in newborns. In Illinois, 1 in 8 babies is born prematurely every year. March for Babies supports the March of Dimes fight to save babies from premature birth and other infant health threats by helping to fund lifesaving research, advocacy, and educational programs.
